Nature Quote / Mantra
The greatest suffering brings the greatest successes
When Alex was on holiday in Turkey with his mum when he was 13. He saw a sign for paragliding and had an urge to sign himself up for it. He and his mum headed up to this 7000’ peak and it was the most scared he had ever been. He was having second thoughts.
After being lifted up by the parachute, he felt like a bird in the sun for an hour. That was the first time in his life he accepted that he can achieve things, he can overcome things.
The Himalayas are one of his favorite places to go. In 2015 he was on Everest coming out of the tent in an amphitheater of mountains. It was about six in the morning and he remembers the blue sky and the sun coming up with the most incredible strength. It was the most picture perfect stillness.
Being in the outdoors inspires thinking and possibilities. When Alex is having a dilemma or a tough decision he’ll head to the mountains away from the distractions. It’s not in the mountains when he thinks about stuff but on the way home when the answer comes.
Inspiration for his book IceFall
Alex’s speaking career started by chance because he grew up with a bad stammer. After sharing his journey on social media he was asked to speak at his primary school about his adventures and to inspire others to over come their own adversities, get active and get outdoors. The feedback was positive, encouraging and having an impact on people. Alex also found that when he spoke in front of an audience he wasn’t stammering as much.
He did more speaking and it grew from there. The feedback was incredible and people have told him they will never complain about anything. From his speaking career and the feedback he received he wanted to share his story in a book. He had always wanted to write and this was a way to spread his message to others.
